On May 8, according to the announcement of the Department of Justice, Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa, a 35-year-old resident of Virginia, USA, was sentenced to 30 years and 4 months in prison for financing the terrorist organization ISIS. Evidence shows that between October 2019 and October 2022, the defendant raised social media proceeds and personally drove hundreds of miles to collect cash, and then converted more than $185,000 into cryptocurrency to Turkey and eventually to ISIS members in Syria. The funds were used to support ISIS militants and rescue female members who were imprisoned. In December 2024, a federal jury convicted him of five counts including conspiracy to finance a foreign terrorist organization.
