According to Cointelegraph, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) confirmed in the latest podcast that his legal team has submitted a pardon application to former US President Donald Trump on his behalf. Previously, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal reported that CZ was seeking a pardon, but it was denied at the time. CZ said that the application for pardon was inspired in part by Trump's previous pardon of the BitMEX founder.
In November, Mr. Zhao pleaded guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act, paid a $50 million fine and was sentenced to four months in prison. According to the Department of Justice, even an amnesty would not eliminate his money laundering charges but could allow him to return to a management role in Binance.US.
