Coinbase Developer Platform announces the launch of x402, an open-source HTTP-based payment protocol

Coinbase Developer Platform has announced the launch of a new open-source payment protocol x402, which aims to activate the Internet's long-term unenabled HTTP 402 status code "Payment Required" and turn it into a true on-chain payment layer, suitable for new scenarios such as API service providers, content creators, and contextual protocols. x402 allows servers to request payments, the client side (including humans and intelligent agents) responds instantly, and supports micro-payment pay-per-view without cumbersome subscriptions. Coinbase said that the protocol is expected to simplify the Web3 payment process and provide a new infrastructure for the agent economy and on-chain services. At present, x402 is open-source, and developers are welcome to participate in the co-construction.
