The top Democrat on the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, Rep. Maxine Waters, will block a joint hearing between her committee and the House Agriculture Committee on a market structure discussion draft bill released Monday.
According to House rules, all participants in a joint hearing must agree unanimously to proceed. According to CoinDesk, a Democratic staffer said Waters will oppose the joint hearing and prevent it from proceeding as planned because she believes former US President Donald Trump's recent interactions with cryptocurrencies have been increasing.
The Financial Services Commission and the Agriculture Commission announced last week that they would hold a joint hearing on the issue of market structure, and on Monday released the first text of a bill addressing the issue, including how the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will regulate cryptocurrencies.
