According to Le Monde, French police rescued the father of a kidnapped cryptocurrency entrepreneur in the province of Essonne, south of Paris, on Saturday evening. It is reported that the victim was forcibly taken away by four masked men in the 14th arrondissement of Paris last Thursday.
According to reports, the kidnappers cut off a finger of the victim and demanded a cryptocurrency ransom of $560-7.95 million (about 500-7 million euros). Police arrested five suspects in their twenties during the rescue operation. The Paris prosecutor's office said the victim was the father of a cryptocurrency marketing company operator registered in Malta.
The incident is the third cryptocurrency-related kidnapping in France this year, following a similar kidnapping of David Balland, co-founder of hardware wallet maker Ledger, in January. No ransom was paid by the victim's family before the rescue operation.
