U.S. and Japanese officials agree to begin working-level consultations

On May 3rd, the US Treasury issued a statement on Friday local time saying that senior officials of the United States and Japan agreed to immediately start working-level consultations on the basis of current discussions and hold more ministerial-level meetings in the near future. The statement pointed out that US Treasury Secretary Vicente, US Commerce Secretary Lutnik, and US Trade Representative Greer met with Japanese Minister of Economic Regeneration Ryosho Akasawa on Thursday local time. The two sides had frank and constructive discussions on fair and reciprocal trade. During the meeting, Vicente emphasized to Akasawa Ryosho the importance of tariff and non-tariff measures, economic security as national security, and other concerns.
