US officials have finalised new economic sanctions against Russia, including banking and energy measures, to increase pressure on Moscow to accept US President Donald Trump's efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine, according to three US officials and a person familiar with the matter. An administration official said the targets of the sanctions included Russia's state-owned energy giant Gazprom, as well as key entities involved in natural resources and the banking sector. However, it was unclear whether Trump would approve the package. The National Security Council "is trying to co-ordinate some more punitive actions against Russia", the person said. "But this has to be signed off by Trump." Another US official also confirmed that "this is entirely his [Trump's] decision".
