Thierry Witzman, strategist at Macquarie, said in a note that even if the Trump administration were to lift all tariffs, the dollar was unlikely to fully reverse its recent decline. "After all, in addition to capital flight, there is a need to reduce reliance on the dollar given the declining integrity of some US institutions and systems," he said. "The dollar will no longer be an essential currency but more of an alternative to a few comparable currencies such as the euro."
