On May 1st, Atlas Axis, the core governance design team of Sky (formerly MakerDAO), submitted a proposal on Wednesday that, if approved, would complete the protocol upgrade from MKR to SKY. The shift would make SKY the only governance token and support staking to unlock USDS rewards for SKY holders.
Sky co-founder Rune Christensen hailed the proposal as a "huge milestone" in a forum post. While USDS and SKY were launched as upgrade tokens, DAI and MKR are still in circulation, and users can choose to convert their holdings into new tokens, enabling a gradual transition.
