James Smith, co-founder of compliance firm Elliptic, said: "We've seen a huge change in the last few years, with exchanges around the world now taking compliance very seriously because they want to be part of the global ecosystem." He noted that "in the early days, only a few companies took compliance seriously", with Coinbase being the first customer and most "not seeing it as a priority" at the time.
