Coinbase has joined forces to file an amicus curiae brief urging the US Supreme Court to take up Harper v. O'Donnell and re-examine the applicability of third-party disclosure principles in the digital age. The case stems from the IRS's "John Doe subpoena" for Coinbase to provide transaction data for more than 14,000 users. Coinbase argued that this practice constitutes "financial shackle" surveillance of blockchain users and violates its Fourth Amendment right to privacy. A decision on whether the court will accept it is expected this year.
