Ethereum Foundation researcher Dankrad Feist proposed EIP-9698 on April 27, and plans to introduce a "deterministic gas cap growth plan" starting from epoch 369017 (around June 1). This is a four-year plan, and the proposal proposes that the limit will be gradually increased by a factor of 10 over the first two years (164,250 epochs), until another tenfold increase is finally made. In theory, if the gas limit is increased by a factor of 100, Ethereum's TPS will be expected to increase to 2,000 transactions. The proposal needs to be approved by the client side before it can be implemented.
This expansion attempt is another important development after the gas cap was raised from 30 million to 36 million in February. Feist pointed out that the incremental upgrade scheme can allow node operators to optimize time. At the same time, developers are testing the EIP-9678 proposal, and plan to achieve a 4x increase in the gas cap in the Fusaka upgrade at the end of 2025.
