The Office of the United States Trade Representative said on Friday that it is in constant contact with Japan and other countries for alternative reciprocal trade arrangements that could eliminate or reduce the current 10 percent tariff level imposed on most countries.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Trade Representative's office said in an emailed statement that the talks were substantive and technical, but that President Donald Trump "will ultimately decide whether to enter into alternative arrangements with any country."
