The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior issued a statement on April 22 declaring cryptocurrency mining illegal, saying it violates several laws in the country and puts pressure on the power infrastructure. The ban concerns laws such as the Criminal Law Amendment No. 31 of 1970, the Communications and Information Technology Regulation Law No. 37 of 2014, the Industrial Law No. 56 of 1996, and the Municipal Ordinance No. 33 of 2016.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior stated that unauthorized cryptocurrency mining has led to "excessive consumption of electricity and energy, increasing the load on the public power grid," causing power outages in residential, commercial and industrial areas, and affecting the supply of basic services. The warning was jointly issued by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the General Administration of Communications and Information Technology, the General Administration of Industry and municipal departments. The authorities asked the relevant mining entities to "rectify immediately" and stressed that legal measures will be taken against violators, including referral to the investigation department.
