FBI: Americans Over 60 to Lose Nearly $3 billion to Crypto Scam in 2024

The FBI's Cybercrime Complaint Center (IC3) reported that "people aged 60 and over lost the most from cryptocurrency-related scams" in 2024, receiving 33,369 complaints worth $2.84 billion. "People aged 40 to 49" were the second-largest victim group, losing $1.46 billion. For the year, IC3 received "149,686 complaints related to cryptocurrency, with total losses reaching $9.30 billion", a 66% increase from the previous year. The FBI warned that the public should "immediately report suspected cybercrime to the FBI".
