President Donald Trump said at the swearing-in ceremony of Securities and Exchange Commission chairperson Atkins on Tuesday local time that he had no intention of firing Federal Reserve chairperson Jerome Powell, although he was disappointed that the central bank did not cut interest rates more quickly. "Never," Mr. Trump told reporters. "The press always messes things up. I'm not going to fire him. I'd like to see him be more active in the idea of lowering interest rates." Mr. Trump said: "Grocery prices have gone down, everything is going down. The only thing that hasn't gone down but hasn't gone up much is interest rates." Mr. Trump said: "We think the Fed should lower interest rates and now is the perfect time. We want our chairperson to be early or on time [to cut rates], not late." Trump also said that the stock market has rallied well.
