Mr. Trump's chaotic policies are prompting some investors to "sell off US assets", but Salim Ramji, chief executive of Vanguard Group, said he still believed in the underlying strength of the US economy. Asked if American exceptionalism had reached its peak, Mr. Ramji replied: "Absolutely not." This view runs increasingly counter to a growing consensus that the decades-long dominance of US investment is coming to an end. Mr. Ramji said that while investors had been selling off a wide range of US assets over the past few weeks, Mr. Trump's trade policy would not mark the end of the US economy's dominance in finance. "We definitely see it in the flow of money, in the behaviour of our clients and in the investment philosophy of our own team," he says.
