Paul Atkins has been sworn in as chairperson of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), and Gary Gensler's formal leadership transition is now complete. Atkins, who has worked with digital asset firms, is expected to continue the interim leadership's reversal of the SEC's previous cryptocurrency boycott. Atkins said he is honored by the "trust and confidence" that Trump and the U.S. Senate have placed in him, and is pleased to begin work with the other commissioners.
Atkins was approved by the Senate earlier this month as President Trump's nominee. He previously served as an SEC commissioner and runs a Washington consulting firm focused on compliance and policy matters. In addition to his Wall Street connections, Atkins also advises cryptocurrency companies.
