Indonesian President Joko Widodo said he noticed signs of money laundering through crypto assets in 2021, amounting to 8.60 billion dollars (139 trillion Indonesian rupiah), and in addition to cryptocurrencies and NFTs, the president also stressed the need to monitor other potential money laundering tools, including virtual assets, market activities, e-currencies, and artificial intelligence-driven transactions.
Mahendra Siregar, chairperson of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Commission, responded to the president's directive by saying that his agency will oversee the issues when cryptocurrency regulation is handed over to the OJK next year.
