On April 17, according to Finance Magnates, the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) issued a public warning that fraudsters had falsified documents from Malta's financial regulator to demand money from traders in the name of fictitious market manipulation fines, reminding users to remain vigilant.
The scam mainly targeted bitcoin and ethereum traders. The MFSA said the scammers sent false documents to individuals involved in BTC and Ethereum trading, claiming fines for alleged market manipulation and threatening regulatory action if they did not comply. The MFSA confirmed that the threats were pure fabrications and that the documents had no legal force. The forged letters carefully mimicked the MFSA logo in an attempt to trick recipients into making payments.
