On April 14 local time, US Treasury Secretary Vincent Bescent left for Buenos Aires, Argentina for a visit. After a meeting with Argentine President Millai on the first day, Bescent said in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg that the current level of tariffs against China is unsustainable and that a "major agreement" will be reached in the future. He also said that negotiations with some allies on US reciprocal tariffs are advancing rapidly, and hinted that other countries should enter into trade negotiations with the United States as soon as possible.
In an interview, Mr. Bescent responded to the current American tariffs on China by saying that the current tariff numbers were too high to be laughed off. "I think nobody thinks they're sustainable, nobody wants them to stay." He said, "There's a big deal to be done at some point."
