Nigerian man plots cryptocurrency love scam involving $2.50 million

On April 12, according to News.bitcoin, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on April 9 that a Nigerian man has been charged in Massachusetts with orchestrating a sophisticated love scam that defrauded more than $2.50 million and transferred the funds into a cryptocurrency account he secretly managed. According to prosecutors, the man created fake online identities between 2016 and 2019 to establish fake romantic relationships with his victims, targeting people all over the United States. The man currently faces a maximum of 40 years in prison.
