BRICS countries stress joint efforts to safeguard the multilateral trading system and oppose unilateralism and trade protectionism

On April 12, the second meeting of the BRICS Economic and Trade Liaison Group in 2025 was held by video from April 10 to 11. At the meeting, the BRICS members specifically conferred on the US "reciprocal tariff" policy, expressed serious concern over the trade tensions caused by the relevant measures, and called for joint opposition to unilateralism and trade protectionism. The Chinese side pointed out that the recent "reciprocal tariff" policy launched by the US government has seriously damaged the international trade system, disrupted the global industrial chain supply chain, and caused continuous impact on the world economy, which is a typical act of unilateralism, protectionism and economic bullying. The BRICS countries are an important platform for emerging market countries and developing countries to strengthen solidarity and cooperation and safeguard common interests.
