According to Golden Ten Data, Barclays economists said in a report that the European Central Bank may cut the policy rate by 25 basis points on April 17, bringing the deposit rate down to 2.25%. They said this expected decision will be justified as inflation continues to decelerate, approaching the ECB's 2% medium-term target, and downside risks to economic growth will materialize.
They said the ECB was likely to continue to portray risks to the inflation outlook as two-way, remaining cautious, avoiding policy guidance for future decisions and sticking to a meeting-by-meeting approach. Barclays expects the ECB to cut interest rates by 25 basis points at each meeting until October, when the deposit rate will reach 1.25%. (Gold 10)
