Japanese and South Korean stock markets suffered a sharp decline

The Nikkei 225 index closed down 2644.00 points, or 7.83%, at 31,136.58 on Monday, April 7. It fell below the 31,000 mark during the session to a new low since October 2023. South Korea's KOSPI index closed down 137.39 points, or 5.57%, at 2328.03 points on Monday, April 7. It fell to its lowest level in more than 17 months during the session.
