The U.S. Senate on Saturday approved a Republican budget blueprint aimed at extending President Trump's 2017 tax cuts worth trillions of dollars and slashing government spending. The Senate voted 51:48 to approve a "budget reconciliation" measure that would allow Republicans to bypass the Senate's 60-vote filibuster to pass Trump's tax, border security and military priorities later this year without a vote from Democrats. The bill will go to the Republican-dominated House of Representatives, which is expected to consider it this week. Nonpartisan analysts say that if Trump's agenda passes, it will add about $5.70 trillion to the federal government's debt over the next 10 years. Senate Republicans put the cost of the measure at $1.50 trillion and said the impact of extending an existing tax policy that was due to expire at the end of this year should not be factored into the measure's cost.
