Trump: Tariffs will cause markets to "boom"

Despite the plunge in US stock markets, Mr. Trump insisted stocks would "boom" as a result of his sweeping tariffs, in his first public comments since unveiling them and triggering market turmoil. "I think everything is going well," Mr. Trump told reporters before heading to Florida. "The markets will boom" and "the country will boom", Mr. Trump said, adding that the US would "have six to 7 trillion dollars flowing into our country". He went on to claim that America's trading partners "have been taking advantage of us for years".
