Lloyds Auctions has announced an auction of the "XBT.com" domain name, which is tied to Bitcoin's historic place in traditional finance. The starting price is $2,798,917. The auction will end on March 28. Lee Hames, the chief operating officer of the auction house, speculated that Musk, Bezos, and even Trump could participate in the bidding.
"XBT" is Bitcoin's ISO 4217 currency code that was introduced around 2013 and is similar to gold (XAU) and silver (XAG). Exchanges such as Kraken and BitMEX still use XBT as some URL and API endpoints, but switched to BTC during Bitcoin's last halving cycle.
