Cryptocurrency platform Debiex has been ordered to pay about $2.50 million for failing to respond to a lawsuit from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) accusing it of being a "romance scam" scam ring, Cointelegraph reported. On March 13, Arizona Federal Court Judge Douglas Rayes granted an earlier motion for summary judgment filed by the CFTC and ordered Debiex to refund about $2.26 million stolen from customers while paying a civil penalty of nearly $221,500. The judge said there was no evidence that Debiex's failure to respond to the CFTC was due to "excusable negligence."
