On March 7, US President Donald Trump said he is "strongly considering" imposing far-reaching sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a peace deal is reached on the conflict in Ukraine. "Based on the fact that Russia is now absolutely'hitting 'Ukraine on the battlefield, I am strongly considering imposing massive banking sanctions, (other) sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire and final peace settlement agreement is reached," Trump wrote in a post on his social platform Real Social on Friday. He added that both Russia and Ukraine need to come to the negotiating table "before it's too late." Trump's latest comments came after a heated meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky in the Oval Office that left the path forward for a peace deal uncertain. Trump has said in recent weeks that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin wants peace.
