The Libra cryptocurrency project, backed by Argentine President Javier Milei, is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The DOJ's Fraud Unit is reportedly investigating Mailey, as well as pointed persons such as Hayden Adams and Julian Peh, for possible economic crimes. The investigation could expand to involve multiple U.S. agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Libra was initially advertised as a financing solution for Argentine companies, attracting a large number of investors, but then its value plummeted, causing many investors to suffer significant losses.
Although Mr. Mailai has ordered an internal investigation, he has denied any wrongdoing, saying he only shared the project and that investors should be aware of the risks involved. "If you go to a casino and lose money, that's your problem," he said
