According to ledgerinsights, Thai Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira said that the government plans to issue 5 billion baht ($148 million) government bonds directly to the public before the end of the fiscal year (September 30). The initial issuance will be considered a sandbox project and can be traded on a digital bond platform.
"We will involve retail investors, regardless of their financial situation," the minister said. "They can invest any amount and buy and sell directly on the platform, bypassing traditional bank counters. There are many platforms to choose from, and with private sector participation we expect to see lower management costs and a minimum investment of 1,000 baht."
In addition, the minister said that the government is considering merging the Securities Act with the Digital Assets Act.
