According to Cointelegraph, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said during the fourth quarter 2024 earnings call that the United States is ushering in a "new era of cryptocurrency."
Armstrong predicts that by 2030, around 10% of global GDP (over $10 trillion) will be in the crypto orbit. He compares the current wave of corporate crypto consolidation to how businesses adapted to the internet in the early 2000s, emphasizing that "Onchain is the new online."
In terms of regulation, Armstrong said that the US currently has "the most crypto-friendly Congress in history" and is advancing stablecoin and market structure legislation. Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller this week also called for stablecoin regulation to allow banks to issue digital assets pegged to the US dollar. Since the US accounts for about 30% of global GDP, its regulatory attitude will have an important impact on global cryptocurrency policy.
