Musk's X Company, formerly known as Twitter, has agreed to pay about $10 million to settle Trump's lawsuit against the company and its former chief executive, according to people familiar with the matter. This will make X Company the second social media outlet to reach a settlement with Trump.
Previously, the platforms suspended the use of Trump's account because of the "January 6" riots at the Capitol. Trump and other plaintiffs filed a lawsuit in 2021 (when Twitter was not acquired by Musk) against Twitter at the time and its CEO Jack Dorsey. Musk unblocked Trump's Twitter account in November 2022. According to some people familiar with the matter, the Trump team considered letting the lawsuit fade away, citing Musk's close relationship with the president and the $250 million he spent on helping Trump get elected. But ultimately they decided to move forward with a settlement. A spokesperson for Company X did not respond.
