The Trump administration has agreed to temporarily restrict DOGE access to the Treasury payment system

Department of Justice prosecutors have agreed to temporarily restrict access to information in the Treasury Department's payment systems by staff at Musk's "Department of Government Effectiveness" (DOGE). The move comes after a group of union members and retirees sued the Treasury Department, alleging that providing DOGE with access to the federal government's vast collection and payment system and the personal data information stored therein violated federal privacy laws. The Trump administration filed a motion Wednesday night seeking to sign a proposed order detailing the agreed terms. The proposed order states, "Defendants will not provide access to any payment records or payment systems maintained by or within the U.S. Fiscal Service." The order allows exceptions, allowing two special government employees within the Treasury Department (Tom Krause and Marco Eliz) to access the records "on demand" in the performance of their duties, but that access is limited to "read-only."
