According to Reuters, India's Minister of Economic Affairs, Ajay Seth, said in an interview that India is revisiting its stance on cryptocurrencies due to the shift in attitudes towards cryptoassets in other countries. The review, which follows the announcement of crypto-friendly policies by US President Donald Trump, could further delay the release of a cryptocurrency discussion paper originally scheduled for September 2024.
"More than one or two jurisdictions have changed their position on cryptocurrencies in terms of usage, acceptance and how they view the importance of crypto assets. In the process, we are reviewing the discussion paper again," said Ajay Seth, who said India's position could not be one-sided as such assets were "borderless", without specifically mentioning the US.
