After publicly saying he wanted the US to take back control of the Panama Canal and buy the Danish-controlled island of Greenland, US President-elect Donald Trump on Monday refused to rule out military or economic action. Asked at a press conference whether he would refrain from using military or economic coercion in Panama and Greenland, Mr. Trump said: "No, I can't guarantee you either of those. But I can say that for economic security we need them." The extraordinary remarks further outlined the expansionist agenda of Mr. Trump, who is due to be sworn in in Washington two weeks later on January 20. Mr. Trump also vowed to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of the United States and reiterated his pledge to impose huge tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
