In a report published on Dec. 19, Chainalysis said North Korean hackers stole more than $1.30 billion worth of cryptocurrency in 47 incidents in 2024, or about 61 percent of all reported thefts that year.
"North Korean crypto attacks appear to be becoming more frequent," Chainalysis said, adding: "It is worth noting that the frequency of attacks 50 million to $100 million and above $100 million in 2024 is much higher than in 2023, indicating that North Korea is getting better and faster at large-scale attacks. This is in sharp contrast to the previous two years, when North Korean attacks were more frequent and each generated less than $50 million in profits."
