Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko says the rise of memecoin is stress testing the Solana network to make it more resilient, turning past disruptions into opportunities for innovation. "Just like NFTs... we were lucky to be able to solve a whole bunch of engineering problems with memecoin, it just made the network and all systems more robust," he says.
As for memecoin's popularity on Solana, Mr. Yakovenko says he was surprised at first, but not so much in retrospect. "In almost all digital economies, entertainment is the biggest area to make money... when I start looking back, it's almost obvious in retrospect," he says.
