Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, said that the golden age of Solana is coming to an end and poses no threat to Ethereum.
Despite Solana's momentum, Drake says Ethereum is focused on long-term gains. "Solana is at its peak right now, but I think this will be the end of Solana's golden age because all of Solana's competitive advantages in terms of latency and throughput will disappear because fundamental differences in architecture make it not scalable," he says.
Currently, Ethereum developers rely heavily on Layer 2 to provide faster and lower transaction fees. "I think Layer 1 is competing with Bitcoin and Layer 2 is competing with Solana," says Drake. "So competing with Solana is not even in the remit of Layer 1, we should be competing on security and health. So if Solana has any competition, then it needs to come from applications and Layer 2."
