A former Biden administration official has agreed to guarantee mixed office rights for tens of thousands of Social Security Administration workers, complicating President-elect Donald Trump's efforts to reshape the federal workforce. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), which represents 42,000 Social Security Administration workers, reached an agreement with the agency last week that will guarantee teleworking through 2029 in an updated contract, according to an email to union members obtained. Rich Couture, president of the AFGE chapter, wrote that the new agreement, signed by Martin O'Malley, President Biden's outgoing Social Security Administration administrator, will allow employees to "maintain their current level of teleworking."
