Gemini co-founder Cameron Winklevoss posted on the X platform that Merrick Garland's Justice Department refused to file campaign finance charges against SBF because they were not included in his extradition. In other words, to do so would technically violate the U.S. treaty with the government of the Bahamas, as the U.S. only agreed to extradite SBF on non-campaign charges. Instead of filling out the necessary paperwork with Bahamian policy partnerships and overcoming this technical issue (which the Justice Department may have deliberately created in the first place) in order to indict SBF on election interference charges, Garland's Justice Department threw up its hands and dropped the charges. When does paperwork become a barrier between prosecutors and adding more charges? Especially when it involves using $100 million of stolen client funds to interfere in elections. It is utterly hypocritical that the party always laments that democracy is under threat. When given the opportunity to truly defend democracy, they refused. This is telling.
