The Gemini cryptocurrency exchange opened to French users just weeks before the European Union Crypto Asset Market (MiCA) regulation came into force. Gemini said French users, including institutions, can now open Gemini accounts to deposit, trade and store digital assets. They will be able to deposit funds using debit cards and bank transfers.
The move paves the way for MiCA to grow in other European Union countries after it comes into full force at the end of this year. (Rules related to the stablecoin issue came into force in June.) Next year, companies that have received MiCA approval in one country will be allowed to operate throughout the European Union. While awaiting approval, companies registered in European Union member states will be able to operate in the country of incorporation for a specified period of time. For companies registered in France, the period is 18 months.
