According to the Washington Post, US President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to get the US government to take a more lenient stance on cryptocurrencies, looking for candidates for key positions that are friendly to the crypto industry, while his top advisers consult with crypto executives on potential changes in federal policy. Initial discussions have focused on a range of financial regulators, including the Securities and Exchange Commission. According to five people familiar with the matter, Trump advisers have considered putting current regulators, former federal officials and financial industry executives, many of whom have publicly expressed pro-cryptocurrency views, in key leadership positions. They cautioned that the discussion process is at an early stage and the list of candidates is still evolving.
